1785 Massachusetts Avenue NW
In June 2013, AEI acquired the property at 1785 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. AEI enlisted the services of WhiteOak Live for the essential development and construction management of this extensive 90,000 square foot office renovation project, valued at $55 million. Originally built in 1915 by Stanley McCormick as one of the city’s inaugural luxury apartment buildings, the structure was repurposed for office use in 1941 and has housed notable organizations such as the American Council on Education, The Brookings Institution, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. AEI's renovations involved a modest expansion to better adapt the building for office use. The first floor was transformed to feature an auditorium, conference rooms, dining area, and reception space, while the upper floors have been designated as office areas. AEI made considerable efforts to maintain and celebrate the historic character and features of the building, including the restoration of the original grand central staircase.
Liberty Park 9/11 Memorial
The Liberty Park 9-11 Memorial was created to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks that took place on September 11, 2001. In May 2011, The Goldstar Group enlisted WhiteOak Live to deliver development and construction management services for this significant national project. The memorial's design was crafted by Hickok Cole, with Hitt Contracting handling the construction. The 9-11 Memorial features limestone and steel salvaged from the Pentagon and the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Additionally, three flag poles retrieved from the World Trade Center site were refurbished and installed as part of the memorial. Every year on September 11th, these flag poles cast a shadow directly onto one of the four monuments at the precise moment corresponding to the terrorist attack that each monument commemorates.
